The last thing you want is readers being distracted by mistakes—spelling, punctuation etc. Mistakes happen, character’s names change part way through the story, hair goes from blonde to red! Maybe the character gets into their car to drive to work, except the previous chapter had it left in the work carpark! You’ve read your work through a hundred times, but you’re so familiar with your work you miss the errors. Three of your family or friends have also read your work and they miss them too—it happens all the time! This is why you need editing and proofreading services.

A little bit about me:

My name is Marcia Batton and I live on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia with my husband, 2 dogs and a cat. I retired a few years ago and recently set up my proofreading and editing business to utilise the skills I developed through approximately 40 years experience in proofreading and editing at various workplaces.

I was encouraged to set up my editing business by a number of people, including some of the Australian authors who have written testimonials for me, all of whom I continue to provide services for.

Both in my working and private life, I have been incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to have many different experiences. These have enabled me to acquire an extensive and varied knowledge base, and wide range of skills. I utilise my knowledge and skills to provide clients with the highest level of service, in order to ensure their work is the best it can be.

I can provide proofreading and editing in the following areas:

• Fiction – all genres except horror and graphic erotica. I accept works that are steamy providing there is a strong story line and the sex is incidental to the story. LGBTQI work is welcome.
• Non-Fiction
• Theses – proofreading for punctuation, spelling, grammar, correct citation. I would expect your supervisor to deal with flow, accuracy etc.
• Policy and procedure documentation.
• Anything else by negotiation.

I provide editing in both American and British English as required. I utilise the Chicago Manual of Style for American English, and the Oxford Style Manual for British English.

Additionally, I have extensive experience in writing policy and procedure documentation, and constitutions, for different organisational types.
